Polish autocasco insurance technical results decline sharply

In the first half of 2026, the technical result for autocasco (AC) insurance in Poland saw a significant decline, dropping from 478.58 million PLN to 96.09 million PLN. While gross written premiums for the sector rose by 6.56% year-on-year to 47.31 billion PLN, total payouts for claims and benefits increased by 4.91% to 27.63 billion PLN.

Specific data for the AC segment shows that while premiums grew by 1.65% to 7.47 billion PLN, claims and benefits surged by 11.48% to 4.97 billion PLN. This was driven by a 6.37% increase in claim frequency and a 3.80% rise in the average cost of claim settlements. The combined ratio for this segment increased from 92.41% to 98.37%.

The Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) suggests that this deterioration may indicate aggressive price competition within the autocasco market and expects potential tariff corrections.
