Polish automotive history: The legacy of Fiat 125p and 126p

The history of the Polish automotive industry is highlighted through two iconic models: the Polski Fiat 125p and the Fiat 126p.

The Polski Fiat 125p was produced for 24 years, with the final unit rolling off the line on June 29, 1991. Developed through a compromise agreement signed in 1965, the vehicle featured a modern Fiat 125 body and braking system, but utilized an older engine, chassis, and dashboard from the Fiat 1300/1500 series to facilitate production.

In contrast, the Fiat 126p remains a major symbol of Polish motoring, produced from 1973 until 2000. A rare ‘Happy End’ edition, consisting of only 1,000 numbered units produced at the end of the line, is currently being offered for sale. This specific yellow ‘giallo ginestra’ model is one of 500 produced in that color, features low mileage of approximately 10,870 km, and is listed for 64,000 PLN.
