Polish Aviation Museum begins MiG Alley modernization

The Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków has launched the ‘MiG Alley – Renewal’ project, a major infrastructure investment designed to protect its outdoor collection of Cold War-era jet aircraft. For the first time, these historic machines, which have been exposed to weather conditions since the museum's inception, will be sheltered under specialized roofing.

The project includes the construction of 22 covered stations providing approximately 4,112 square meters of roofing. This modernization aims to mitigate damage caused by solar radiation, precipitation, moisture, and temperature fluctuations. In addition to the protective structures, the initiative will modernize the surface, install new lighting, and create rest areas for visitors.

The collection at MiG Alley, located at the former Rakowice–Czyżyny airport, features dozens of aircraft, including various generations of the MiG family (such as the MiG-15, MiG-17, MiG-21, MiG-23, and MiG-29) and Sukhoi models like the Su-7, Su-20, and Su-22. The first stage of the works is expected to be completed by 2026.
