Poland's Baltic coast battered by severe July storm

A powerful storm swept the Polish Baltic coast in early July, bringing wind gusts of up to 120 km/h to the eastern shoreline. The surge forced a blanket ban on swimming and prompted emergency services to intervene 42 times in the Nowy Dwór district, clearing fallen trees and securing infrastructure.

Local authorities erected sand‑bag barriers and evacuated three scout camps, which spent the night in a school. The storm stripped 30–40 m of beach in places such as Mikoszewo and Krynica Morska, damaging several seaside businesses, including the Kinderlandia attraction, a bar in Kąty Rybackie and a restaurant. No injuries were reported, and cleanup operations continue along the eroded beaches.

Meteorological services issued multiple hydrological alerts, with level‑2 warnings for the coast and level‑3 alerts for the broader region. Temperatures remained low, further discouraging beach tourism for several days.
