Polish banking regulations regarding cash deposits and credit assessments

In Poland, banks may request documentation regarding the source of cash deposits regardless of the amount. While the law requires banks to report transactions exceeding the equivalent of 15,000 euros to the General Inspector of Financial Information, banks also monitor smaller transactions based on risk assessment and Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols. Refusal to provide explanations regarding the origin of funds can lead to a bank refusing the deposit or limiting account usage.

Regarding mortgage applications, banks prioritize the stability and predictability of income over the total amount deposited into an account. When assessing creditworthiness, financial institutions evaluate net income, the duration of employment, and the regularity of earnings. For business owners, banks analyze revenues, costs, taxes, and the form of taxation to determine the actual surplus available for loan repayments.
