Microsoft releases major Windows 11 update with new UI tweaks and security features

Microsoft has issued a July update for Windows 11 that goes beyond routine bug fixes. The package lets Home users postpone installation for a longer period than before, giving more control over when the OS is upgraded. It also adds a system‑restore point feature that can roll the machine back to a previous state if the system becomes unusable.

The update overhauls the Search box: advertising and promotional content have been removed, results now clearly indicate their source, and local apps, settings and files are prioritized. Search also tolerates misspellings and can work with two‑character queries. Widgets have been simplified, with fewer ads and reduced on‑hover activation. A new screen‑dimming filter helps reduce eye strain, and under‑the‑hood tweaks improve file‑explorer speed, Bluetooth handling and overall stability. Some of these changes were first seen in the Windows Insider experimental channel and are now rolling out to all Windows 11 users.

Microsoft also reminded users to apply the monthly Patch Tuesday security update within three days, noting that the July release addressed over 200 vulnerabilities.
