Polish Border Guard Enhances Cross‑Border Crime Fight with Vehicle Recoveries and Baltic Sea Patrol

On 20 July, the Bieszczady unit of the Polish Border Guard cooperated with Czech and Portuguese police to recover a Mercedes C‑class worth about 390 000 zł that had been stolen from a Portuguese rental company. The day before, together with Swiss police, the unit retrieved a 2008 Peugeot valued at roughly 97 000 zł, originally taken from a German rental fleet. Since the start of 2026, the Bieszczady unit has recovered more than 90 stolen vehicles, with a total value exceeding 11.3 million zł.

From 10 to 15 July, the Polish maritime patrol vessel SG‑301 “Generał Józef Haller” took part in the EU‑coordinated MMO Baltic Sea 2026 operation. During the six‑day mission the ship covered over 1 000 nautical miles, patrolling Polish waters and the exclusive economic zones of Lithuania and Latvia. Working alongside authorities from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Norway, Denmark and Sweden, the crew monitored maritime traffic, protected critical underwater infrastructure and helped detect illegal migration, using satellite‑based systems and long‑range drones supplied by the European Maritime Safety Agency.
