Polish box office sees “Backrooms. Bez wyjścia” top weekend over “Toy Story 5”

The A24 horror film “Backrooms. Bez wyjścia”, directed by 20‑year‑old internet creator Kane Parsons, became the most‑watched movie in Polish cinemas over the weekend of 19–21 June. It attracted 206,299 viewers in 225 theatres, generating ticket revenues of more than 5.57 million zł, and posted the strongest opening for a horror in Poland in 2026.

The film outperformed Pixar’s “Toy Story 5”, which drew 178,405 cinema‑goers in the same period, making Poland one of the few markets where the animated sequel did not claim the top box‑office spot. Critics highlighted the movie’s unsettling atmosphere, claustrophobic set‑design and deliberate pacing that builds tension before a more intense second half. The cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass and others.
