Polish boy Krzysia Wajszczak undergoes surgery and fundraising for medulloblastoma treatment

Eleven‑year‑old Krzysia Wajszczak was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma that had spread to his spinal cord. After emergency transport by helicopter to Warsaw, surgeons at the Centre for Child Health removed the tumor in a last‑minute operation. The tumour sample was sent for detailed analysis to determine further therapy. Krzysia has completed his first cycle of chemotherapy and is now awaiting additional treatment, which may involve radiotherapy or proton therapy at a specialised centre in Essen, Germany.

His family has launched a fundraising campaign, initially online and now through auctions of donated items, to cover the high costs of ongoing care. Support has come from his peers, local football club Zagłębie Lubin and the wider community, who are contributing money and supplies to help finance the expected radiotherapy or proton‑therapy procedures.
