Polish cherries and starwort highlighted for health benefits

Poland, one of Europe’s largest cherry producers, is promoting its fruit for its dense nutritional profile. Fresh cherries contain low calories (about 49 kcal per 100 g), high fiber, vitamins C, A, B2 and minerals such as potassium, manganese and zinc. The red colour comes from anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that may lower oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, support heart health and improve blood‑cholesterol levels. Studies cited in the article suggest regular consumption can help manage diabetes risk and protect against chronic diseases.

Stellaria media, commonly known as starwort or common chickweed, is a widespread weed in Poland that also offers a rich supply of nutrients. The plant’s leaves provide up to 300 mg of vitamin C per 100 g, along with provitamin A, linoleic acid, flavonoids and saponins. Traditional and modern research attributes anti‑inflammatory, diuretic, detoxifying and skin‑healing properties to starwort extracts. It is used in teas, topical preparations and dietary supplements, though excessive intake is cautioned because of saponin content.
