Polish children face epidemic of stress and digital overload
Medical experts warn that stress among children in Poland has reached epidemic levels. School pressure, family conflicts, peer relations and excessive exposure to digital devices are identified as the main drivers. Reports from UNAWEZA, UNICEF and local foundations document rising cortisol levels, weakened immunity, frequent somatic complaints and higher incidence of illnesses.
Researchers also highlight a phenomenon dubbed the “popcorn brain,” describing how rapid, fragmented screen stimulation impairs concentration, slows thinking and fuels anxiety, aggression and depressive symptoms. Early and prolonged screen use is linked to delayed speech, memory and cognitive development, as well as increased risk of eating disorders and suicidal ideation, especially among pre‑teens and early teens.
Experts recommend limiting screen time, encouraging outdoor play, rest and unstructured activities, and open communication between parents and children to mitigate the health and psychological impacts.
