Polish cinema sees award success and industry critique

Polish cinema is seeing both international recognition and internal debate. At the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, Agata Trzebuchowska’s film ‘SICK’ achieved significant success, winning two awards. The film, which marks Trzebuchowska’s feature directorial debut, follows siblings caring for their grandmother in a tense atmosphere in Masuria.

Meanwhile, at the closing gala of the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia, actor Michał Sikorski used a dramatic entrance to critique the current state of the industry. Sikorski expressed frustration regarding the increasing replacement of actors by influencers and artificial intelligence, remarking that ‘times are difficult’ for traditional performers.
