Polish cinema updates: Smarzowski home release and dual Lalka adaptations
Polish cinema is seeing significant releases this season, including the home media launch of Wojtek Smarzowski's drama "Dom dobry" and two distinct adaptations of Bolesław Prus's classic novel "Lalka."
"Dom dobry," a drama exploring domestic violence and manipulation starring Agata Turkot and Tomasz Schuchardt, will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on August 14. The film, which debuted in theaters in November 2025, has reached nearly 2.5 million viewers.
In September, two separate productions based on "Lalka" will premiere within two weeks of each other. A six-episode Netflix series, featuring Tomasz Schuchardt and Sandra Drzymalska, is set to release on September 16. This is followed by a cinematic adaptation directed by Maciej Kawalski, starring Marcin Dorociński and Kamila Urzędowska, which hits theaters on September 30. While the film aims for a classic historical portrayal, the Netflix series is described as a modern reinterpretation.
