Polish cities build new stadiums to boost sport and tourism

Lublin is preparing a modern speedway stadium, a project that has sparked public debate over costs, financing and the city’s priorities. Proponents argue the venue will attract thousands of fans, create jobs during construction and operation, and signal Lublin’s ambition to compete with larger Polish centres. Critics contend that other public services such as hospitals and schools also need funding.

In Jaworzno, authorities are overhauling the Azotania stadium. Work scheduled for completion by July 2026 includes a concrete sub‑base for a new athletics track, upgraded drainage, new lighting masts, a roof for the winter ice‑rink area, and expanded changing‑room and administrative facilities. The renovation aims to make the venue usable year‑round for athletes, recreational runners, school groups and community events, thereby enhancing local quality of life and attracting visitors.
