Polish cities halt construction after medieval burial and wooden‑street discoveries

During renovation of the Bagatela tram junction in central Kraków, archaeologists uncovered several medieval burials and a fragment of a medieval sewer pipe near Garbarska Street. The find prompted the heritage conservator to suspend work at that location while further investigations are carried out, though tram‑track reconstruction continues elsewhere with a target to restart service by the end of September.

In Lublin, excavation for a heating‑network upgrade on Bernardyńska Street revealed a preserved wooden street surface, dated to the 17th‑early 18th century, with even older layers beneath it. The discovery includes wooden planks and a piloted wooden post, all documented under the supervision of the Lublin Provincial Conservator of Monuments and the archaeological firm ARCHEOINVEST. Both projects remain under archaeological oversight, ensuring the preservation and study of the heritage items uncovered.
