Polish cities roll out extensive road and tram modernization projects

Municipal authorities across Poland have launched a series of infrastructure upgrades and service adjustments scheduled for June‑July 2026. In Warsaw, the long‑awaited reconstruction of Szaserów Street in Praga‑Południe began, involving replacement of pavement, bus bays and a parking area, while tram operations on the Winnica loop were temporarily rerouted, with replacement bus services provided. A major tram‑track overhaul started on the Fordoński roundabout in Bydgoszcz, prompting line suspensions and detours. In Szczecin, a four‑month renovation of the Pomorskie Estakada’s tram tracks will restrict lanes, lower speed limits and introduce a shuttle service. Similar works are underway in smaller municipalities: the Tryńcza commune issued a tender for road resurfacing in six villages; Łódź is reviewing the Rąbieńska and Traktorowa streets to shorten the renovation timeline; Wiązowna plans a Lubelskiej Street overhaul with alternative routes; Darłowo opened a new pedestrian‑bicycle bridge; Zamość will rebuild Orla Street, including sidewalks and school access; and several gminas (Czernica, Gajków, etc.) are adding new bus stops and adjusting timetables. The projects involve road resurfacing, tram‑track renewal, bus‑route changes and the creation of new pedestrian‑cycling connections, with expected disruptions such as lane closures, altered traffic flows and temporary bus services. Funding ranges from municipal budgets to regional and EU contributions, and the works aim to improve safety, reduce congestion and modernise public transport infrastructure.
