Polish cities support new shelter volunteering rules

The Association of Polish Cities (Związek Miast Polskich) has expressed support for a parliamentary project to amend the animal protection law, aimed at facilitating volunteering in animal shelters. While the association views increased social engagement as a way to improve animal welfare and support shelter operations, it has raised concerns regarding the lack of specific regulations.

Local government officials warn that the current draft does not sufficiently define rules for recruitment, verification of volunteers, or the allocation of responsibility for the safety of both volunteers and animals. The association suggests that access to shelters should not be unconditional and proposes the implementation of specific organizational models to prevent legal and logistical issues.
