Polish Clay Jar with 17th‑Century Coins Found in Nowy Dwór

A treasure hunter, Dariusz Mastalerz, uncovered a clay jar filled with 17th‑century Polish coins in a forest near Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, Masovian Voivodeship. The deposit includes loose silver orty and trojaki, as well as coins still attached to fragments of the earthen vessel.

The find was handed to the Mazovian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments, which secured the jar and placed the coins in controlled storage for further study. Experts note that the coins date to the reign of Sigismund III Vasa and may be linked to the Swedish incursions during the mid‑1600s, though the exact reason for their burial remains speculative. Detailed numismatic analysis and archaeological examination are planned.
