Dariusz Mioduski emerges as potential FIFA presidential candidate

TalkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Dariusz Mioduski, owner of Legia Warsaw and vice‑president of the Polish FA, is being discussed as a possible European‑backed challenger to incumbent Gianni Infantino in the 2027 FIFA presidential election. Jacobs quoted a source saying, “Rośnie poparcie wewnątrz UEFA dla wystawienia kandydata przeciwko Infantino.”

The speculation cites support from officials in Norway, Sweden, Bosnia‑Herzegovina, Germany and Spain, while other high‑profile names such as UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin and PSG chief Nasser Al‑Khelaifi have declined to run. Former Polish FA president Zbigniew Boniek said, “Teoretycznie, jako postać, mógłby kandydować, ale nie widzę szans,” expressing doubt about Mioduski’s chances.

Infantino has announced his intention to seek a third term, but recent controversies – including the “Balogun gate” incident – have weakened his standing among several European federations. The German Football Association (DFB) has reportedly refused to sign a letter of support for Infantino, signalling growing opposition.

If Mioduski were to become FIFA president, he would likely need to divest his stake in Legia Warsaw, a point raised by Polish media. Reactions in Poland range from surprise to support, with Legia coach Marek Papszun wishing him “the best” should he run.
