Widzew Łódź stadium expansion faces financial roadblock

Widzew Łódź club president Robert Dobrzycki said the planned expansion of the stadium on al. Piłsudskiego in Łódź is stalled by a financial shortfall. The project aims to increase capacity to 30‑32 000 seats, but cost estimates exceed the club’s budget and projected revenue from additional seats would not cover construction and operating expenses. Further expenses include upgrading surrounding infrastructure—roads, parking and compliance with UEFA licensing requirements. The club lacks sufficient private funds and city authorities cannot cover the gap, meaning external financing from municipal, central or national programmes would be required. Despite the setbacks, the expansion remains a goal for supporters and the club’s leadership.
