Polish companies announce significant workforce reductions
Makro Cash and Carry Polska has reached an agreement with labor unions, including NSZZ Solidarność, OPZZ Konfederacja Pracy, and NSZZ Solidarność 80, regarding a restructuring process. The company plans to reduce its workforce by up to 250 employees. Under the agreement, departing staff will receive severance packages exceeding statutory requirements, additional bonuses, and continued access to certain employee benefits to assist in their professional transition. The company stated it does not intend to close any existing halls in Poland during this restructuring.
Separately, the Hutchinson plant in Żywiec has announced plans for group layoffs affecting 170 employees. The reduction is expected to occur in several stages: 90 employees by the end of the year, 50 by April 30, and 30 by June 30. Labor unions at the facility are currently entering discussions with management to determine the specific terms and conditions of these redundancies.
