Polish companies face rising debt as million-PLN liabilities exceed 2.36 billion PLN
More than 1,000 Polish companies currently hold debts exceeding 1 million PLN, with total liabilities surpassing 2.36 billion PLN. This represents a 24 percent increase in the number of million-PLN debtors compared to May 2025. The highest concentration of these indebted businesses is located in Warsaw, with sectors such as trade, industry, transport, and construction being most affected. On average, each indebted company owes approximately 2.2 million PLN.
Adam Łącki, president of the Krajowy Rejestr Długów, noted that the rising number of million-PLN debtors serves as a market warning signal, as these debts typically accumulate over time rather than appearing suddenly. The debt is split between commercial law companies, which owe over 1.74 billion PLN, and sole proprietorships, which account for over 616.2 million PLN.
In terms of credit management, the average merchant limit for Polish companies is 38,000 PLN, though this varies significantly by sector. Wholesale trade sees the highest average limits at 116,300 PLN, while the HoReCa sector has the lowest at 19,800 PLN. Approximately 85.3 percent of Polish companies fall within the A-C reliability categories based on payment credibility assessments.
