Polish regulator probes Meta's Facebook and Instagram contact practices
Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has opened an investigation into Meta’s Facebook and Instagram platforms over compliance with consumer‑rights law that obliges service providers to give clear, accessible contact channels such as email and telephone numbers. The regulator highlighted that users often encounter a maze of electronic forms with no direct dialogue, hindering timely resolution of issues like account takeover, data theft, payment problems or profile blocks. UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny warned that if Meta profits from users—through advertising or paid services—it must ensure real contact options, as required by Article 12(1)(3) of the Consumer Rights Act. The office expressed serious doubts that Meta currently meets this legal requirement.
