Polish consumers want direct farm purchases and are ready to pay more

A survey by the Institute of Food Strategy Grunt found that 76‑78% of Poles would like to buy food directly from farmers and are willing to pay higher prices for higher‑quality, locally sourced products. The same research shows that only about 3% of farms currently sell directly, and many consumers lack nearby markets, with 23% having a market within a 15‑minute walk.

Respondents express strong trust in local markets—32% rate farmers’ markets and bazaars highly—and 77% say local authorities should actively support access to locally produced food. Municipalities such as Rzeszów and Kraków are cited as examples that are expanding market spaces and building short supply chains to schools and public institutions to meet this demand.
