Polish couples favor cash envelopes over traditional wedding gifts

A recent Polish survey shows a strong shift in wedding gift preferences: 74 % of respondents say immediate family and witnesses should give cash, with 41 % adding a small symbolic item and 33 % comfortable with cash alone. Traditional presents such as cookware, mixers, linen or electronics are now much less popular. Experts note that cash gives newlyweds flexibility for honeymoon costs, home furnishing or a down‑payment on a house, while a modest token keeps the gesture personal.

Similar trends appear in christening customs. While religious items like medallions, crosses or silver keepsakes remain common, many families also accept envelopes of money or practical gifts such as baby clothing or gift‑cards. Combining a symbolic keepsake with a cash contribution is recommended to balance tradition with usefulness.
