Polish court denies tax deduction for golden Morawiecki statue

The Supreme Administrative Court has ruled against Sławomir Mentzen’s company regarding the tax deductibility of a golden statue of former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The company, owned by the Confederation leader, sought to include the cost of the 3D-printed figure—which cost over 10,000 PLN—as a business expense to reduce corporate income tax (CIT).

Mentzen’s legal team argued that the statue served a marketing purpose by attracting new clients and gaining social media attention. There were also attempts to classify the figure as office furniture to allow for one-time depreciation. However, the court rejected these arguments, stating that internet popularity does not sufficiently prove a direct link between the expense and the company’s revenue-generating activities. The ruling mandates that the company cannot deduct the cost of the statue from its taxes.
