Polish Dance Theatre launches senior‑led ‘Island of the Dead’ performances in four towns

The Polish Theatre of Dance (Polski Teatr Tańca) implemented the “Tu Jesteśmy” project, offering interdisciplinary workshops and a performative piece titled “Wyspa umarłych” (Island of the Dead) co‑created with senior citizens. The project was carried out in Rawicz (Greater Poland), Inowrocław (Kuyavian‑Pomeranian), Nowa Sól (Lubusz) and Kielce (Świętokrzyskie). Senior participants attended five‑day workshops led by professional dancers, developing choreography inspired by Arnold Böcklin’s painting, Kazimierz Przerwa‑Tetmajer’s poem and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s symphonic poem. The initiative aims to strengthen local identity, foster intergenerational community, and increase access to high‑quality dance theatre outside major urban centres.
