Polish doctors warn against running during extreme heat

Medical staff at the Emergency Department of the Military Clinical Hospital in Kraków report a surge in heat‑related cases as temperatures exceed 35 °C. About twenty patients, including individuals in their 30s and 40s who ran during the peak heat, were admitted with dehydration and sudden circulatory collapse, some requiring hospitalization.

Doctors advise the public to avoid intense physical activity during the hottest part of the day, recommending exercise in the early morning or evening instead. They stress the importance of staying hydrated—at least three litres of water daily—and caution that symptoms such as fatigue, confusion, or faintness signal dangerous dehydration, especially for children and the elderly.
