Polish education system faces crisis in teacher prestige and stability
Recent reports indicate a deepening crisis within the Polish education system, characterized by a significant erosion of teacher prestige and professional authority. According to a study by Prezent marzeń, 79 percent of respondents view the social standing of educators as either average or low compared to other professions requiring higher education.
Key drivers of this decline include low wages, excessive bureaucracy, unstable educational policies, and increasing social pressure from parents. Additionally, 91 percent of those surveyed expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of psychological support for teaching staff.
Parallel findings from the Social Education Society (STO) show that 51.7 percent of non-public school directors assess the current state of education as bad or very bad. The STO's 'Barometer of Non-Public Education' indicates a lack of optimism, with 58.2 percent of directors believing the situation will not improve. Directors cited staffing challenges linked to low prestige, frequent regulatory changes, and growing administrative burdens as primary concerns.
