Polish Employers Face 'Always On' Challenge to Employees' Vacation Rest

A Gi Group Holding survey of Polish workers shows that only 24.8% never think about work while on holiday, while 35.3% frequently or constantly think about job duties, and 10% say they cannot disconnect at all. Director of key client services Tomasz Tarabuła stresses that effective vacation policies require proper hand‑overs, automatic out‑of‑office replies and silencing work notifications.

Polish labour law reinforces the right to uninterrupted paid vacation. The State Labour Inspection notes that an employee is not obliged to keep a work phone or monitor e‑mail during leave, and employers may not demand immediate availability. The rise of remote work after the 2020 pandemic has blurred the line between work and private time, making the “always‑on” culture a growing concern for employee wellbeing.
