Polish energy companies expand large-scale energy storage capacity
Major Polish energy groups are significantly expanding their energy storage infrastructure to support the national energy transition.
TAURON has acquired the BME Jawor project, a battery energy storage facility with a capacity of 120 MWh and a power rating of 28.27 MW. Located in the Jawor Special Economic Zone, the project is scheduled to become operational in early 2027. The investment is supported by a capacity market contract spanning from 2029 to 2045, ensuring long-term revenue predictability. This acquisition brings TAURON’s total investment decisions for energy storage to over 600 MW.
Separately, PGE Energia Odnawialna has awarded contracts to Elektrotim for the construction of four energy storage units located at existing wind farms: Lotnisko (180 MWh), Pelplin (96 MWh), Wojciechowo (56 MWh), and Ścieki (40 MWh). The total capacity of these new units is 372 MWh, with a combined contract value of approximately 408 million PLN gross. These facilities are expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2028 as part of PGE’s strategy to reach 18 GWh of storage capacity by 2035.
