Polish energy giants PGE and JSW detail financing plans and multi‑billion‑zloty losses
Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) is pursuing offshore wind farms in the Baltic, gas power plants and large‑scale energy storage. Vice‑President of Finance Przemysław Jastrzębski said the group relies on power‑capacity markets, differential contracts and a mix of EU grants and corporate debt to fund these transformation projects, noting that recent bank attitudes have improved and financing is not a problem.
Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW) reported a net loss of 6.255 billion zlotys for 2025 despite a 6.2 % rise in coal output. Lower coke and coal prices, a buyer‑driven market, and geopolitical and currency pressures reduced revenues. The company recorded a negative EBITDA of 4.989 billion zlotys and wrote down assets by 3.17 billion zlotys. With over 30,000 employees, JSW faces liquidity strains, delayed social security contributions, and has begun a restructuring plan that includes cutting about 4,200 jobs and targeting annual savings of roughly 460 million zlotys.
