Poland energy prices rise ahead of heating season

Poland is facing rising energy and heating costs ahead of the upcoming heating season. Prices for various fuels, including coal, eco-pea, and wood, have increased as summer promotions end. Pellet prices have seen significant spikes, with wholesale rates reaching up to 2,000 PLN per ton, while some retail options are even higher. The Polish Pellet Council (PRP) has officially denied reports claiming they predicted prices could hit 4,000–5,000 PLN per ton, clarifying that such extreme scenarios were discussed in meetings but not as an official PRP forecast.

Regarding electricity and gas, experts warn of potential price hikes in 2027. While current gas prices are regulated by the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) and remain relatively stable, market volatility and the expiration of certain protections could lead to higher bills. Electricity net prices for households are projected to rise from 49 gr/kWh to approximately 62 gr/kWh by 2027 due to rising European market rates. Additionally, the impact of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) remains a concern, with industry leaders noting that ETS costs can account for a significant portion of energy prices in Poland.
