Polish classic 'Lalka' set for major film and Netflix series releases
A new film adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s novel *Lalka* is scheduled to open Polish cinemas on 30 September 2026. Directed by Maciej Kawalski, the production features Marcin Dorociński as Stanisław Wokulski, Kamila Urzędowska as Izabela Łęcka and Mark Kondrat returning after 16 years to play Ignacy Rzecki. The film’s promotional poster, showing Dorociński in a period‑accurate Warsaw setting, has been released.
Netflix will launch its own series version of *Lalka* on 16 September 2026. Both the film and the series were announced earlier in the year as part of a coordinated effort to bring the 19‑century novel to contemporary audiences.
Production company Akson Studio, which co‑produced the Netflix series, reported a doubled net profit for 2025, rising to 13.6 million zł, citing the success of projects such as *Lalka* and other serials. The firm plans further work on a second season of its own series "Scheda" for TVN Warner Bros. Discovery.
