Polish Episcopate seeks new standards for pre-marital courses

The Polish Episcopal Conference is working to establish nationwide standards for pre-marital preparation courses. Currently, there are no uniform rules in Poland regarding the duration or format of these courses, with individual dioceses offering varying options ranging from weekend workshops to online modules.

Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda, chairman of the conference, has expressed concern that overly brief sessions may reduce marriage preparation to a mere formality rather than providing meaningful support. He emphasized that a few hours or a single short meeting are insufficient for preparing individuals for such a significant life decision. The proposed standards aim to ensure couples have adequate time to discuss essential topics such as faith, sexuality, and parenthood.

The initiative was discussed during a plenary meeting in Łomża. The next step involves presenting these proposals to the Pope during a meeting of conference presidents in the Vatican this October.
