Polish experts advise storing eggs in original cartons, not fridge door compartments

Food‑safety specialists in Poland warn that moving eggs from their original cardboard cartons into the door compartments of a refrigerator is a common mistake that reduces freshness. The original carton protects eggs from shocks, moisture loss and odor absorption, and keeping the sharp end down helps preserve quality.

Experts recommend keeping eggs in the carton on an interior shelf of the fridge at a stable temperature of 0‑5 °C. The door area experiences larger temperature fluctuations and offers less protection, so eggs stored there spoil faster.

The advice is supported by the European Food Safety Authority, which advises maintaining a constant cold environment to limit bacterial growth and extend egg shelf life.
