Polish experts approve raw rye mushrooms and launch interactive map of mushroom hotspots

Rye mushrooms (rydze) are highlighted as one of the few Polish forest fungi that can be eaten raw when properly identified. Experts stress the need to check for the characteristic orange latex, use only young, undamaged specimens, and start with a small portion, especially for people with sensitive stomachs, seniors or pregnant women.

An interactive map hosted on grzyby.pl now shows where mushroom fruiting is most abundant across Poland. Recent reports point to high yields near Leszno, Poznań, Chełm, Łódź and Warsaw, with large catches of chanterelles, red chanterelles, boletes, porcini, and other species. Users share harvest amounts – for example, 1.3 kg of chanterelles in Lipiany. The map also includes safety advice: carry a charged phone, mark the starting point, and avoid letting children or the elderly forage alone.

Both pieces underscore safe foraging practices and the growing popularity of mushroom picking in Polish forests.
