Polish farmers adopt automation and specialized crops
Polish farmers are increasingly adopting modern technologies and specialized crops to improve economic outcomes. In the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, Andrzej Szczepański manages a 230-hectare multi-generational family farm. The operation includes approximately 430 cattle, with 170 milking cows serviced by three automated milking robots. The farm utilizes a Shredlage system for corn silage to maintain high milk yields, which can reach up to 13,500 liters.
In another region, Marcin Liberski of Różopole is diversifying his 50-hectare farm by cultivating durum wheat. By dedicating 13 hectares to this specific variety, which is primarily used for high-quality pasta production, he aims to capture prices up to 30% higher than standard wheat. While durum wheat requires specific soil conditions and precise sowing timing, the higher market value helps compensate for potentially lower yields compared to common wheat varieties.
