Polish farmers protest over drought, low prices and rising costs

Agriculture Minister Stefan Krajewski met with farmers in Kurów on 12 July to discuss a severe situation caused by heat and drought, which has reduced yields of berries, wheat and other crops. Farmers said the poor harvests, combined with low market prices – for example pork selling for 3.5‑4 zł per kilogram – leave them unable to cover production costs.

Protests were also staged outside the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with farmers demanding immediate subsidies, compensation for lost yields and relief from high input prices for fertiliser, diesel (about 7 zł per liter) and gas. They warned that many family farms are on the brink of bankruptcy and called for a larger, well‑targeted EU budget for the post‑2027 period.
