Polish farmers push for higher diesel excise refund

The municipal office of Mokrsko (Poland) has issued detailed instructions for agricultural producers to apply for a refund of the excise tax embedded in diesel used for farming. Applications can be submitted between 3 August 2026 and 31 August 2026 and must include original VAT invoices or printed copies, along with a statement from the regional Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture showing the average annual livestock numbers for 2025 when the refund concerns animal husbandry.

At the same time, the National Council of Agricultural Chambers (KRIR) has appealed to Agriculture Minister Stefan Krajewski to raise the refund rate from the current level to 2 zł per litre of diesel, citing fuel prices that have risen above 8 zł per litre. KRIR argues that the existing refund no longer offsets the high cost of fuel for intensive field work during the harvest season and that a higher rate would provide meaningful savings for farms that consume thousands of litres of diesel each year.
