Polish farmers receive government aid and seek better crop‑insurance as weather risks intensify

Minister of Agriculture Stefan Krajewski told a press conference in Daleszyce that the government will allocate funds from the ministerial reserve and the general budget to compensate farmers and orchard owners who suffered losses from frost, drought, heat waves and hail. The exact amount of aid will be determined after loss‑assessment commissions finish their work, and farmers may also receive early advances of direct‑payment subsidies.

At the same time, insurance experts from VH Polska warned that climate change has turned isolated weather events into a cascade of risks—drought, spring frosts, hail—covering large areas and threatening crops such as rapeseed and fruit trees. They said the current crop‑insurance model, designed for localized hazards, no longer matches the scale of today's risks and must evolve toward data‑driven, flexible solutions that support farm liquidity rather than full loss compensation.
