Polish farmers' registered debt sees slight decrease

Data from the National Debt Register (KRD) shows a slight decrease in the number of indebted farmers in Poland. The number of debtors fell by nearly 2 percent year-on-year to 3,600, while the total amount of arrears decreased by 4.5 million PLN to 238.3 million PLN.

Experts caution that these figures may be misleading and do not necessarily indicate a permanent improvement in the financial stability of the agricultural sector. Katarzyna Wuczkowska from KRD noted that the reduction of 68 individuals is too small to signal a lasting trend. Furthermore, the average debt per debtor has remained largely unchanged.

Analysts suggest that the recent liquidity in some farms was supported by payments from the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture (ARiMR), which distributed 18.95 billion PLN by June 11, including 15.62 billion PLN in direct payments. Specialized farms with high fixed costs remain the most vulnerable to financial instability.
