Polish film festivals highlight masters of cinema

The VI Old Film Festival in Bydgoszcz will honor Academy Award-winning production designer Allan Starski with the ‘Złoty Kadr’ award for his lifetime achievement. Starski, known for his work on ‘Schindler’s List’ and ‘The Pianist’, is scheduled to receive the award on November 3.

The festival, which runs until November 8, features a program of classic cinema and musical performances, including a screening of the 1917 restored film ‘Bestia’ starring Pola Negri. Other notable guests include directors Andrzej Grabowski, Wojciech Smarzowski, and Filip Bajon.

In Krakow, the NNW Festival Film Academy will host director Lech Majewski for a session titled ‘A Journey Through History and Art.’ The event includes a screening of his film ‘12 Images of Captivity,’ which visually interprets the paintings of Jacek Malczewski to explore Polish history and contemporary spirituality.
