Poland braces for stormy front: strong winds, rain and heat spikes

A dynamic low‑pressure system is moving across Poland, bringing a succession of weather hazards. Forecasters expect a warm front followed by a cold front, producing heavy rain, thunderstorms and localized hail. Strong wind gusts of up to 100 km/h are expected in the north and west, with wind alerts issued for eight voivodeships (Łódź, Świętokrzyskie, parts of Małopolskie, Opole, Śląskie, Mazowieckie, Pomorskie and Zachodniopomorskie). In some areas, supercell thunderstorms may develop, with the possibility of short‑lived tornadoes and strong downdrafts.

Temperatures will be variable. Early in the week a cool, windy spell will dominate, with highs of 18‑23 °C and lows as low as 9 °C in the north. A second heat wave is forecast for mid‑July, potentially pushing daytime mercury above 40 °C and even reaching 45 °C in the south. Experts advise keeping windows closed during storms, securing outdoor objects, and avoiding balconies or metal fixtures.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued first‑degree wind warnings and alerts for severe thunderstorms in several regions. The situation is expected to improve by the second half of July, but continued monitoring is recommended as the front may generate further localized severe weather.
