Polish firms face recruitment setbacks from manager delays and weight bias
A majority of Polish recruiters say that slow decision‑making and unrealistic expectations from hiring managers are causing firms to lose top candidates. Sixty‑three percent of HR specialists observe chronic lack of time among managers, while 52 % cite prolonged business decision processes as the main obstacle to building deeper relationships with applicants. The resulting delays often push strong candidates toward faster‑acting competitors.
Separate research highlights a hidden bias against overweight and obese applicants, affecting over half of Poland’s population. Studies show that 82 % of respondents preferred a slim woman for a managerial role and 80 % a slim man, with similar preferences in specialist professions such as medicine (83.5 %). Recruiters report a strong tendency to select slimmer candidates even when qualifications are identical, indicating weight‑based discrimination (“weightism") in the hiring process.
