Polish football clubs' municipal funding under scrutiny as Pogoń Szczecin debt emerges

Pogoń Szczecin owes roughly 733,000 zł for stadium rent and has not paid any property‑tax installments, putting the club at risk of losing its annual municipal grant of 6‑7 million zł from the city of Szczecin. City officials say that continued non‑payment may lead to a suspension of the support programme.

A report by Gazeta Wyborcza shows that Polish local authorities spent a total of 208.5 million zł on clubs in the top three leagues in 2025. Śląsk Wrocław received the largest share, just over 24 million zł, followed by Wisła Płock, GKS Katowice and Piast Gliwice. Smaller allocations went to Lechia Gdańsk (10 million zł), Pogoń Szczecin (6.59 million zł) and Motor Lublin (6.22 million zł).
