Polish government moves ahead with US permanent base and Foxconn electric‑car hub

The Polish cabinet approved a resolution to establish a permanent United States military base on Polish soil, a proposal put forward by Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz and supported by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Tusk also announced that after the summer Poland will finalise negotiations with Taiwan's Foxconn to create an electro‑mobility hub in Jaworzno. The project, called ElectroMobility Poland, aims to produce up to 400,000 electric vehicles a year, with the first model expected on the line by 2029. Funding is expected to come partly from the national recovery plan and from Foxconn.

Experts expressed skepticism about the ambitious output target, noting the need for a strong brand, market demand and competition from established manufacturers in China and Europe. They warned that without solid political backing and realistic market assumptions, the 400,000‑car goal may remain unattainable.
