Researchers at Delft University of Technology have published a study on integrating energy storage and flexible loads—such as electric vehicles and heat pumps—into power grids. The paper proposes the use of Power Management Systems (PMS) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to provide frequency reserves, direct load regulation, and to mitigate risks like overloads, voltage drops, and reverse power flows from distributed photovoltaic installations.

Polish transmission system operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) announced a second capacity‑market call for 4 August 2026, invoking the market‑for‑capacity mechanism after several coal‑fired units reduced output due to technical constraints and extreme summer heat. The call aims to secure sufficient reserve capacity to maintain system reliability and avoid load shedding, highlighting ongoing challenges in balancing generation and demand.
