Polish hailstorms devastate corn and soybean fields

Intense hailstorms swept across several Polish regions in late April, including the Wielkopolskie, Pomorskie and Lower Silesian voivodeships. Rainfall reached 25–30 L per square metre, with hail striking within minutes and producing a wall of water and white pellets.

Farmers reported severe damage to a range of crops. In the Wołów area of Lower Silesia about 110 ha of corn were destroyed, while a nearby farm lost roughly 30 ha of soybeans out of a 70‑ha planting, an estimated 30 % loss. Additional losses were noted in wheat, barley, rapeseed, sunflower (around 20 ha), sugar beet, onions and apple orchards, with some corn fields suffering up to a 20 % reduction in yield.

Many growers have filed insurance claims, though several farms lack coverage for spring crops. Local agricultural offices are documenting the damage with photos and videos to support loss assessments.
