Polish health experts say obesity drugs need lifelong lifestyle support

Medical experts emphasise that obesity is a chronic disease with high relapse rates—80‑95 % of cases return after treatment. GLP‑1 medicines such as Ozempic can produce rapid weight loss, but they are not a permanent cure. Doctors warn that the most common myth is that the drugs are a shortcut, and that lasting results require sustained diet, exercise and behavioural changes.

Katarzyna Kucewicz, a psychologist, and physicians Anna Sankowska‑Dobrowolska and dietitian Oliwia Poniatowska stress that patients must continue monitoring their weight even after stopping medication, as the body tends to regain the highest mass it has known. They call for a realistic view of drug therapy as a supportive tool rather than a standalone solution.
